Each year, the ASCO Annual Meeting becomes a focal point for the global oncology community. It is where emerging science, clinical breakthroughs, and real-world perspectives come together. With ASCO 2026 approaching, anticipation is building across the healthcare industry as physicians, researchers, and healthcare teams prepare for the data and discussions that may influence cancer care in the months ahead.
The deeper value of ASCO often sits beyond the main stage. Conversations about shifting treatment pathways, practical implementation challenges, and evolving expectations around education and evidence continue to shape how oncology professionals engage with the future of medicine. As new therapies and technologies take centre stage, understanding how healthcare professionals interpret and apply these developments becomes increasingly important.
Over the past three years, M3 Global Research has completed 1,064 healthcare market research studies connected to ASCO. These studies explore clinicians’ experiences of the meeting, as well as the perceived value of the research and education shared throughout the congress. Together, they provide a clear view of what drives meaningful engagement and how global oncology discussions evolve from one year to the next. As ASCO 2026 draws closer, we interviewed Dr Jackson Gao, a medical oncologist from Cancer Care Associates of York and a member of the M3 Global Research panel.

Establishing the Diagnosis
What oncology themes are coming up most in your peer conversations right now, and do they match the kinds of questions you see in healthcare market research studies?
The biggest theme is personalised medicine in oncology. There are more targeted options available for cancer patients, with new developments emerging every month. Through healthcare market research studies, I am exposed to new data and potential future approvals earlier than many of my peers.
What practical questions do you hope decision-makers ask physicians in studies before acting on new oncology insights discussed at congresses and scientific meetings?
I would like decision-makers to ask physicians about real-world experience and perceptions. Everything is so different in a clinical trial, as the trial population rarely matches real-world patients.
When you complete an online survey or interview study, what types of questions feel most valuable or meaningful to answer, and why?
The most valuable questions ask me about my personal experience using a drug, or how I would incorporate a new drug into my practice and patient population. This makes the interview or survey feel more personalised.
As a healthcare market research advocate, why do you currently recommend and refer your colleagues to join the M3 Panel?
I think the M3 Panel is a great way for oncologists to gain insight into newer drug developments and potential future approvals.
As ASCO 2026 approaches, M3 Global Research will continue to listen to oncology professionals and capture these perspectives through healthcare market research studies.
